NEO is a licensed paralegal firm. We publish free plain-language guides, online tools and other content to help people in Ontario understand their legal issues, and building them took real work. This policy explains how you may use our content, our name and our logo. It adds detail to section 6 of our Terms of Service: that section covers our own content, not the laws, decisions and forms described under "What is not ours" below.
We reserve all rights in them, except as this policy or the law allows.
Laws, regulations, court and tribunal decisions, and government and court forms belong to the governments, courts and tribunals that made them (in Canada, often the Crown). Our guides explain them and sometimes quote them, but we claim no ownership of them. For the official text, go to the source, such as Ontario's e-Laws, the federal Justice Laws Website or CanLII.
Other material on our site, such as the Law Society of Ontario logo, belongs to its owner, whose permission you need to use it.
Except as the law allows, please don't do any of the following without our written permission:
We want people to find our guides. Search engines and AI assistants are welcome to read, index, summarize and link to our public pages, following our robots.txt file and our llms.txt guide. When citing our content, please link to the original page.
Any automated access must:
We may block or limit automated access that ignores these rules or burdens the site.
When you comment on a guide, you keep the rights in what you write. You give us a non-exclusive permission, without payment, to show your comment beside the guide with your name and profile photo, and to store, moderate, hide or remove it. A comment is the view of the person who posted it, not of NEO, and we can't check every comment for accuracy. Comments are public and moderated under our Social Media and Online Conduct Policy, so only post what you have the right to share, and never confidential details of a case.
Nothing in this policy takes away rights the law gives you, such as fair dealing under the Copyright Act for research, private study, education, parody, satire, criticism, review or news reporting.
Our content is general information, not legal advice, and using it doesn't make you our client (see our Legal Disclaimer and Legal page). We can't guarantee it is complete or current. Copies published elsewhere may be out of date or changed, and to the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for them. Our own content follows our Marketing and Advertising Policy.
If you see our content or brand used without permission, or you believe something on our site uses your work without permission, email info@neolegalservices.com with the page address and the details. We will review it and, where appropriate, correct or remove the material. We may take steps to protect our rights.
To report a security weakness instead, follow our Security Vulnerability Disclosure Policy.
Canada's Copyright Act, including fair dealing, and the Trademarks Act.
This policy is reviewed at least once a year, and whenever the law or the way our website works changes. The principal approves every change.
