NEO's free initial consultation: what to expect

Your first consultation with NEO is free and comes with no obligation. It is a chance to explain your problem, hear your options and decide whether to go ahead.

Legal problems are stressful, and not knowing what help will cost makes it worse. A free first consultation lets you get an initial view before you commit to anything.

What happens

  1. You tell us what happened and what you want to achieve.
  2. We run a conflict check, to make sure we can act for you.
  3. We explain your options, the next steps and the deadlines that matter, and whether your matter is within a paralegal's scope.
  4. If you would like us to help, we explain the fee and send a written retainer agreement.

What to bring

  • Any document you have received: a claim, notice, ticket, letter or decision.
  • Your contract, lease, invoices or receipts.
  • A short timeline of what happened, with dates.

What it doesn't include

Working on documents and a laptop

The consultation is an initial assessment. It doesn't create a retainer, and we are not acting for you until you sign one. Detailed work, such as drafting documents or contacting the other side, starts after the retainer is signed.

This article is general information for people in Ontario, not legal advice. Rules, forms and deadlines change, and every situation is different. Check the current rule or speak to a licensed legal professional before you act.

Not sure where you stand? A licensed paralegal can look at your documents and tell you your options.
