A safe and healthy workplace for our team, our clients and our visitors.
Neo Legal Services Professional Corporation is committed to the health and safety of everyone who works with us or visits us: our licensees, staff, contractors, clients and visitors, whether they work in our office, at court and tribunal hearings, or remotely. We meet our obligations under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997 (WSIA), which is administered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), and we aim to prevent injuries and illnesses before they happen.
Legal services are not automatically covered under the WSIA, and the firm was not required to register. We chose to: we have applied to the WSIB for coverage of our workers “by application” under section 74 of the Act, so that anyone who works for us has the WSIB’s protection if they are injured or become ill because of their work. Coverage takes effect on the date the WSIB receives the application and stays in place for as long as we have workers.
Workplace violence and workplace harassment, including sexual harassment, are not tolerated, whether they come from a colleague, a client, an opposing party or anyone else. Incidents and concerns can be reported to the principal or, if the principal is involved, to another licensee of the firm. Every report is looked into promptly and fairly, kept as confidential as possible, and the person who reported is told the outcome. No one is penalized for reporting in good faith. Our violence and harassment policies are reviewed at least once a year, as the OHSA requires.
We never discourage, threaten or penalize anyone for reporting an injury or making a claim. Claim suppression is prohibited under the WSIA.
After an injury or illness we work with the worker, their health care providers and, where applicable, the WSIB to support an early and safe return to work, offering suitable modified duties or hours where they are available.
This policy also covers work done from home and away from the office. We provide guidance on a safe, ergonomic workspace, on screen breaks, and on travelling safely to courts, tribunals and client meetings, and we expect workers to report any hazard or injury that happens while working remotely in the same way.
This policy is reviewed at least once a year and whenever our work, our workplace or the law changes. Last reviewed: October 2026.
