Social Media and Online Conduct Policy

Last updated: October 15, 2026

Purpose

Social media and the internet help people find legal information, and they bring risks to confidentiality and professionalism. This policy sets out how everyone at NEO behaves online, on the firm's accounts and in a personal capacity when talking about the firm or its work.

Who it applies to

Every licensee, employee and contractor.

Our policy

  1. No client information. We never post information that could identify a client or their matter, including photos, stories or details, without the client's written consent.
  2. Information, not advice. Posts and replies give general information. We don't give legal advice to individuals in public comments: we invite them to a free consultation instead.
  3. Responding to reviews. We may thank a reviewer or invite them to contact us, but we never reveal confidential information when responding to a review, even a critical one.
  4. The knowledge base comments. Comments on our guides are public and moderated. We remove comments that share private details about a case, are abusive or discriminatory, or are spam, and our replies follow this policy.
  5. Marketing rules apply. Posts that promote our services follow our Marketing and Advertising Policy.
  6. Professional tone. We are courteous and civil online, including about courts, tribunals, other professionals and the other side in a matter.
  7. Personal accounts. A personal account must not suggest it speaks for the firm, and must follow the same rules on confidentiality.
The rules behind this policy

The Law Society of Ontario's Paralegal Rules of Conduct, including confidentiality, civility and marketing.

Review

This policy is reviewed at least once a year, and whenever the Law Society's By-Laws or rules change. The principal approves every change.
