Fair Hiring and Employment Policy

Last updated: October 15, 2026

Purpose

A fair workplace serves clients better. This policy explains how NEO recruits and employs people, consistent with Ontario law and the Law Society's expectations on equity, diversity and inclusion.

Recruiting

  1. Equal opportunity. Hiring decisions are based on the skills and qualifications the role needs, without discrimination on any ground in the Ontario Human Rights Code.
  2. Clear job postings. Postings describe the role and its requirements honestly, and include the information Ontario's employment standards law requires in publicly advertised postings.
  3. Accommodation. Applicants can ask for accommodation at any stage of the process.
  4. Licence checks. For roles that require a Law Society licence, we confirm the licence is in good standing.
  5. Confidentiality. Applicants' information is used only for recruitment and kept confidential.

Employment

  1. Written terms. Every employee and contractor receives written terms that set out their role, pay and duties, including confidentiality.
  2. Employment standards. We meet or exceed Ontario's Employment Standards Act minimums for pay, hours, leaves, vacation and termination.
  3. Accommodation. We accommodate employees to the point of undue hardship, under the Human Rights Code.
  4. Safe workplace. Our Workplace Safety and WSIB Policy and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Discrimination Policy apply to everyone.
  5. Development. Everyone receives the training their role needs, under our Professional Development and Competence Policy.
The rules behind this policy

Review

This policy is reviewed at least once a year, and whenever the Law Society's By-Laws or rules change. The principal approves every change.
