Protected Grounds

Under Ontario's Human Rights Code, you cannot be discriminated against or harassed based on several protected grounds, including:

  • Race, Colour, or Ethnic Origin
  • Sex, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, or Gender Expression
  • Religion or Creed
  • Family or Marital Status

Employer Obligations

  • Duty to Accommodate — Employers must provide reasonable accommodations to the point of undue hardship.
  • Safe Workplace — Employers must have policies in place to prevent and investigate harassment.
  • No Reprisal — Employers cannot punish you for exercising your human rights.
