Toronto Small Claims Court electronic filing uses the Ontario Courts Public Portal following the October 2025 transition. Older instructions directing all Ontario small claims filings through the same online route may therefore be out of date. Confirm the court location and current directions before submitting documents.

Use the correct file number, document type, and payment information. Keep the submission confirmation and check whether the filing was accepted. An upload is not necessarily the same as an issued claim or accepted filing, and it does not replace required service on another party. If a deadline is urgent, follow the court's current urgent-filing instructions or contact the appropriate court office. Prepare documents early enough to address a rejection or missing information.
Prepare the document before opening the submission process. Check party names, court location, file number, signatures, attachments, and the current form. Use clear filenames and verify that the final version is complete and readable. If fees or a waiver are relevant, follow the portal's actual instructions. Keep the submitted version unchanged with the confirmation so any rejection or later question can be compared with what was sent. An account dashboard or automated receipt should be read carefully for its precise status.
Plan separately for service and any hearing-material requirements. The court's filing portal and a system used to present documents at a hearing can have different functions. Do not assume placing a file in one system satisfies every obligation in the case. If a filing is rejected near a deadline, obtain prompt advice about the available procedural response and current court directions. Starting early allows time to correct ordinary omissions. A careful filing process protects the record and reduces avoidable uncertainty about whether the intended document was accepted by the correct court.
