For subcontractors

Apply to work with NEO

We are a licensed paralegal firm. If you serve documents, translate or interpret, commission affidavits or notarize, keep books, deliver and file papers, or offer another service a paralegal firm may need, tell us about your business below.

What applying means

A way for businesses to put their services forward. It is not a job application, a listing or a membership.

How we choose who does a job

Each job goes to whoever suits it: the service, where it is, the language, the timing and who is available. We may call on someone who is not on our list, and being on it does not mean you will be offered work.

We pay for the work you do, on terms agreed in writing, and never for referring clients to us. Being on our list is not a job offer or employment, and you remain an independent business.

No fees, and no obligation either way

  • There is nothing to pay to apply or to be on our list: no listing, subscription or sign-up fee.
  • Being on our list does not commit you to take any job, and it is not a promise of any work.
  • You may say no to any job before you accept it, and we may give a job to someone else.
  • You can ask us to take you off our list at any time.

Your application

Business contact details, please. We use them to consider you for work and to contact you about it.

Services you offer (tick all that apply)

For example: Durham Region and Toronto in person, or anywhere in Ontario remotely.

Any language you can work with clients in.

For example a translator’s certification and who granted it, or an appointment as a commissioner for taking affidavits or a notary public. We may ask for proof.

Insurance for your work

Any answer is fine. What a job needs depends on the work, and we talk it through before a first job.

Per job, per page or by the hour. You can leave this until we talk.

Please do not include anyone else’s personal or confidential information.

We use these details only to consider you for work and to contact you about it. You will not be added to any mailing list. See our Privacy Policy.

After you send your application

Every application is read by a person. Nothing is approved automatically.

  1. We review your application

We read it ourselves. We may write to you with a question or two, or ask to see proof of a certification, appointment, insurance or WSIB clearance you mention.

  2. We reply by email

We let you know whether we will add you to the people we may call on for jobs. If we don’t, there is nothing further you need to do.

  3. We agree written terms before a first job

When we have work that suits you, we agree the services, your rates, invoicing and payment, insurance and confidentiality in writing, and you sign our confidentiality agreement before you see any client information.

  4. Each job is confirmed in writing

We email what is needed and by when. You decide whether to take it, do the job, give us any proof it needs (such as an affidavit of service) and invoice us at the agreed rate.

Each business keeps its own obligations

You run your own business: you are responsible for your own taxes, CPP, HST registration if it applies to you, insurance, any WSIB coverage the law requires, and any licence, certification or appointment your work needs. Where a job touches a client’s legal matter, you work under the direction of our licensee, who stays responsible to the client, and you do not give legal advice. This page is general information, not legal, tax or employment advice, and sending an application does not create an agreement, a job or any other relationship. We are NEO Legal Services Professional Corporation, a licensed paralegal firm (Mo. Farooqui, Licensed Paralegal, LSO licence P21785), and we are not a law firm.
