A visitor visa refusal is frustrating, especially for family visits. Here is how to understand it and what to do next.

A temporary resident visa (visitor visa) refusal comes with a letter giving the main reasons. Officers must be satisfied that the visitor will leave Canada at the end of their stay, among other requirements.
Find out the real reasons by getting the officer's notes, fix the weaknesses, and apply again with better evidence. There is usually no appeal, but judicial review in the Federal Court is possible in some cases, with short deadlines.

You can request the GCMS notes through an access to information or privacy request. They often explain the decision in more detail.
You can ask the Federal Court to review an unreasonable refusal, but leave must be sought quickly (usually within 15 days for decisions made in Canada and 60 days for those made outside).
A lawyer or licensed immigration consultant can review the refusal. NEO can notarize supporting documents.
