Tell us about your school, your program and the placement it needs. If it looks like a fit, we will speak with you and your placement coordinator. There is no fee, and asking commits you to nothing.
What to have ready, and who a placement is for.
What a placement depends on, and what asking does and doesn’t mean.
We may decline any enquiry, and we will tell you by email either way.
A licensed paralegal directs and reviews your work and is responsible for it. The full lists · The rules behind them
A person at NEO reads every enquiry. Please don’t include details of any legal matter: sending this form does not create a lawyer-client or paralegal-client relationship.
Nothing is arranged until your school has approved the placement in writing, and either of us can decide not to go ahead before you start.
If it looks like a fit, we talk with you and your placement coordinator or co-op teacher about the hours, the dates, your learning goals and your school’s forms.
We need your school’s written placement agreement or approval for this placement (for high school co-op, the school board’s Work Education Agreement). Your word alone is not enough, and nothing is arranged before we have it.
Your school confirms how workplace insurance is arranged for the placement, and we agree with your school the steps to follow if anyone is hurt.
You sign a confidentiality undertaking and a conflict-of-interest declaration, and we check for conflicts with the firm’s clients. You see no client file until both are signed.
Then your supervisor, your schedule and the placement itself: every step, and an hours planner. Placement coordinators: hosting information.

A placement your school approves as part of your program is unpaid, which Ontario’s Employment Standards Act allows for these school programs. That is the only kind of unpaid work we offer. If you are not in such a program, any work with us would be a paid position, at not less than Ontario minimum wage. Any hours beyond what your school approves, or any work outside the placement, would be paid work too. There is never a fee for a placement.
Not without pay. Under the Employment Standards Act, someone who does work for a business, or is trained in the skills its team uses, is generally an employee unless their school has approved the placement. So outside an approved program, we take people on only in paid roles, at not less than Ontario minimum wage. You can join our talent list by sending the student form and choosing “None of these” (or, if your program has no placement, answering “No”). We may contact you if a suitable paid role opens, but we can’t promise that one will.
No. There is no fee to ask, and none for a placement, for the student or the school. A placement is never offered in exchange for a fee.
A confidentiality undertaking and a conflict-of-interest declaration, and we run a conflict check. You will not see any client file until both are signed. Your school’s own placement agreement is signed too, before your first day.
Only through your school board’s co-op program, with a parent or guardian’s contact details. Please ask your co-op teacher to contact us at info@neolegalservices.com. The online form is for applicants 18 and older.
We use your enquiry only to consider you for a placement (or, outside an approved program, for paid roles) and to contact you and your school’s placement office about it. Only NEO’s principal and the people the principal has authorized see it. We keep it for up to 12 months after we decide (on the talent list, up to 12 months after you send it), then delete it, unless you go on to a placement or a role with us. To see, correct, withdraw or delete it sooner, email info@neolegalservices.com. We never add you to a mailing list. See our Privacy Policy.
Please don’t include it in your enquiry. The student form does not create a lawyer-client or paralegal-client relationship, and the people who read it are deciding about a placement. If you need legal help, contact the firm separately.
