Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost?+
The fee is $450 plus 13% HST ($508.50 in all) for the work described on this page. Court, tribunal or government fees and other disbursements are extra. We confirm the scope and the fee in a written retainer agreement before any work starts.
What happens when I check out?+
You book a time for your intake call, then save a card on Stripe's secure page. Nothing is charged today: the card is only charged later, for an invoice for work already done, as your retainer agreement sets out. A licensed paralegal confirms the details, checks for conflicts of interest and, if we can act for you, sends the retainer agreement. Fees paid before the work is done are held in our trust account.
What are GCMS notes?+
They are the officer's notes in IRCC's Global Case Management System, and they often explain a decision in more detail. They can usually be requested through an access to information or privacy request.
Should I reapply right away?+
Reapplying without dealing with the reasons for refusal often leads to the same result. It usually helps to understand the concerns first.
What counts as misrepresentation?+
Giving false or incomplete information, or leaving out an important fact, may lead to a refusal and a five-year bar, in some cases even when it was not intended. A careful response with evidence matters.

Important limitations
No outcome can be guaranteed; IRCC and the Immigration and Refugee Board make the decisions
Information must be complete and truthful; misrepresentation may lead to a refusal and a five-year bar
Deadlines in IRCC letters must be met, and missing one may lead to a refusal or a closed file
A licensed paralegal may represent you before IRCC and the Immigration and Refugee Board, but not in the Federal Court, so the firm refers judicial reviews and any other work outside a paralegal's scope to an Ontario lawyer.
