Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost?+
The fee is $750 plus 13% HST ($847.50 in all) for the work described on this page. Court, tribunal or government fees and other disbursements are extra. We confirm the scope and the fee in a written retainer agreement before any work starts.
What happens when I check out?+
You book a time for your intake call, then save a card on Stripe's secure page. Nothing is charged today: the card is only charged later, for an invoice for work already done, as your retainer agreement sets out. A licensed paralegal confirms the details, checks for conflicts of interest and, if we can act for you, sends the retainer agreement. Fees paid before the work is done are held in our trust account.
Can a licensed paralegal represent me in an immigration matter?+
Yes. The Immigration and Refugee Protection Act allows a paralegal who is a member in good standing of a provincial law society to represent clients before IRCC and the Immigration and Refugee Board. Federal Court work must be done by a lawyer.
Can the firm make IRCC process my application faster?+
No one can make IRCC decide faster. A complete and consistent application may help avoid delays caused by missing or unclear documents.
What happens if my status expires while I wait?+
If you applied to extend your status before it expired, you can usually stay in Canada on the same conditions while IRCC decides (maintained status). Leaving Canada during that time may affect this.
Will I need biometrics or a medical exam?+
Many applications need biometrics, and some need an immigration medical exam with an IRCC panel physician. IRCC tells you when and how.

Important limitations
No outcome can be guaranteed; IRCC and the Immigration and Refugee Board make the decisions
Information must be complete and truthful; misrepresentation may lead to a refusal and a five-year bar
Deadlines in IRCC letters must be met, and missing one may lead to a refusal or a closed file
A licensed paralegal may represent you before IRCC and the Immigration and Refugee Board, but not in the Federal Court, so the firm refers judicial reviews and any other work outside a paralegal's scope to an Ontario lawyer.
